Limit Up to 2,000 Euros for Greeks Going Abroad
Greeks traveling abroad will be able to take 2,000 euros for their travel needs, but the ban on cash withdrawals from banks in Greece and abroad via credit or prepaid cards issued by Greek banks is still in place.
The 2,000-euro limit does not apply to foreign nationals.
According to a July 24 finance ministry decision, Greek nationals traveling overseas can carry a total of 2,000 euros or the equivalent in another currency. A central bank directive is expected to lay out the details of the money transfer procedure and the time frame applicable.
The limit applies per individual and per trip.
Escorts accompanying an individual abroad for health care or treatment are allowed to withdraw and transfer up to 2,000 euros from a bank account.
Shipping companies can make cash withdrawals of up to 50,000 euros per day for their business needs.
By approval of a relevant banking committee, a daily limit for withdrawals to facilitate the needs of other business sectors can be set.
Meanwhile, the daily 60-euro limit per depositor continues to apply.
