Pelion’s Hotel Des Roses Launches Eco Activities for All

Des_Roses_1Nestled in the fishing village of Platanias, southern Pelion, Hotel Des Roses invites restless travelers to participate in three new alternative tourism programs this summer.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAKnown as the birthplace of the Centaurs and the summer residence of the Greek gods, Mt Pelion is an ideal destination for relaxation and leisure. Tapping into the diverse offerings of the region, the family-run Hotel Des Roses is now offering a series of eco-tourism activities which include hiking, diving, visits to local monasteries, herb familiarisation and soap producing seminars.

  • The hotel’s three-hour mythology-culture activity includes a visit to some of the region’s finest beaches as well as to the archaeological site of Sipiada.

The sea caves of Thetis promise to be a highlight of the trek, which will come to a close at the hotel with light snacks and homemade lemonade.

  • The two-hour mountain trekking tour through chestnut, cherry, orange, lemon and olive groves includes a visit to a post-Byzantine chapel and monastery in the Mousgies settlement.

The walk takes travelers to the village springs, where homemade tsipouro (pomace brandy) will be offered during a presentation of local herbs and therapeutic plants. The hike comes to a close with red wine and light snacks at the hotel.

  • The final activity is a two-hour seminar on how to make organic soaps with olive oil and herbs to be held in Des Roses’ garden.

Hotel owner Nikos Dovas will demonstrate cold process soap making and will speak of the history of soap in Greece. The event will come to a close with homemade tsipouro and local sweets.

With over 50 years experience, Platanias’ Des Roses offers visitors the hospitality that Greeks are known for while providing unique hands-on experience in local culture, traditions and lifestyle.
