Greece Welcomes Over 1.7 Million Tourists in Q1 2015
Greece saw 1.7 million tourists in the first quarter of 2015, beating last year’s incoming tourist arrivals during the same period by 45.6 percent, according to recent data from the Bank of Greece.
In March alone, passenger traffic to Greece stood at 613,000 tourists, an increase of 34.3 percent.
The increase in passenger traffic during the January-March 2015 period led to a 12.8 percent increase in travel receipts compared to the first quarter of 2014, reaching 532 million euros.
Receipts from residents of non-EU-28 countries increased by 16.7 percent to 266 million euros. Revenue from travellers from EU-28 countries reached 253 million euros in the January – March 2015 period, an increase of 9.8 percent compared to the same period of 2014.
More into the data, receipts from German tourists during the first three months of the year increased by 2.8 percent and amounted to 42 million euros and tourism revenue from French visitors increased by 39.7 percent and amounted to 14 million euros. Also, receipts from British tourists amounted to 42 million euros, an increase of 25.5 percent.
Travel receipts from Russian tourists saw a 73.2 percent drop and amounted to 5 million euros. Tourism revenue from American visitors increased by 32.9 percent and amounted to 35 million euros.
