Alternate Minister Kountoura Underlines Importance of Maritime Tourism for Greece

Maritime tourism is a major issue in Greece and is high on the agenda of the Greek Tourism Ministry, Alternate Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura said over the weekend at a cruise forum that took place in the regional unit of Ilia, part of the region of Western Greece.

“Maritime tourism is the protagonist of the Greek tourism product”, she said.

The alternate tourism minister was an official guest of the Ilia Chamber, which organized the cruise forum within the framework of a series of events held on the occasion of European Maritime Day that launched on May 20.

During the forum, Ms. Kountoura was honored for her contribution to the development of tourism in the prefecture of Ilia by the president of the Katakolo Port Authority, Leonidas Varouxis and the president of the Commercial Association of Ancient Olympia, Nikos Zarokostas.

On Sunday, Ms. Kountoura met, among others, the Governor of Western Greece Apostolos Katsifaras and Vice Governor of Ilia Yiorgos Georgiopoulos.
