Greek Hoteliers Express Concern on Possible VAT Hike
The Hellenic Federation of Hoteliers (POX) on Thursday expressed deep concern regarding a possible increase of the value-added tax (VAT) rate on accommodation.
In an announcement, the federation stated that the hotel sector has become “hostage” to rampant speculations concerning various extraordinary tax collection measures currently under discussion.
“It is obvious that any discussion of additional and unpleasant burdens on the country’s hotel product, during the course of the tourism season, causes great inconvenience to businesses and their employees and also confusion and insecurity to the millions of foreign citizens of countries that contribute to Greek tourism and the national economy”, the announcement read.
In regards to a VAT hike in particular, the federation noted that studies have ascertained that an increase in rates will dramatically affect the competitiveness of Greek tourism.
