May 1st Holiday in Greece: Where are the Greeks Going This Year?
Greeks will mainly travel to domestic destinations for the upcoming May Day holiday, instead of visiting cities abroad, which was the trend last year, a recent survey said on Tuesday.
According to the Trivago booking and price comparison site, although Rome is the top choice of the Greeks for this year’s May Day long weekend holiday, Nafplio comes in second and is followed by Thessaloniki and Athens. Hydra ranks seventh preferred city break destination and is followed by Monemvasia, Spetses and Rethymno (Crete).
Last year, Greeks had opted to take their May Day long weekend holiday mainly to cities abroad as seven out of their 10 choices were foreign destinations. This year, only three cities abroad made the top 10: Rome (first place), Istanbul (fifth place) and London (sixth place).
The 10 most popular city break destinations for the Greeks, based on consumer searches for trips between April 30 and May 4, took place during the February 1 – April 20 period.
