Alternate Tourism Minister to Promote Greece in Russia

Alternate Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura will depart for Moscow on Tuesday to attend the Moscow International Exhibition Travel & Tourism (MITT) in Russia.

MITT, Russia’s largest and longest running travel exhibition, will run March 18-21. The exhibition attracts over 2,000 participating companies and some 200 destinations and is the key meeting place for the industry and an opportunity to catch up with colleagues and clients.

During her stay in Moscow, Ms. Kountoura will meet with leading representatives of the Russian travel market to strengthen tourism cooperation between the two countries. She will also aim to further promote Greek tourism in the Russian market, develop special programs for thematic tourism and attract investment to the Greek tourism sector.

Her agenda includes meetings with Russian Deputy Minister of Culture Alla Manilova and the chief of the Federal Tourism Agency (Rostourism) Oleg Safonov. She is also scheduled to give interviews to major Russian media outlets.

According to data by Rostourism, Greece was recently ranked third in the leading destinations selected by Russian tourists for their trips abroad in 2014, recording a 17 percent drop compared to 2013.
