Calling All Snow Lovers: Greece Celebrates World Snow Day on Jan.18
Snow Report: It’s all about fun and games in the snow on January 18, when three of Greece’s ski resorts join forces to celebrate World Snow Day.
Organized by the International Ski Federation, World Snow Day is the second phase of the ongoing “Bring Children to the Snow” campaign, aiming to get kiddies to “Explore-Enjoy-Experience” what else? The snow.
Activities at Parnassos Ski Resort, the country’s largest, participating since 2012, start today with ski simulation trials and contests for school children.
Youngsters under 15 can use the facilities free of charge and will be able to take part in group ski and snowboard lessons at a discount with rental equipment for free.
On Saturday, activities include all-day skiing, a snowboarding show, a giant slalom tournament, tube-sliding competitions for kids and families and a torch relay. Parallel events include making the biggest Greek snowman, a party and awards. Cookies and refreshments will be served throughout.
Participants can also test the latest equipment from manufacturers in specially designed demonstration areas.
Pisoderi Ski resort, west of Florina, in northern Greece, celebrates all week long with daily school visits to the Vigla Ski Resort with free transport, equipment, ski, snowboard and sleigh lessons as well as an introduction to mountain safety by the Hellenic Rescue Team.
Other activities include presentations and trials of the latest ski equipment and a snow art exhibition.
The Falakro Ski Resort, northeastern Greece, offers free lessons and use of facilities for children under 15, a sleigh race and a snowman contest, ski and snowboard races.
