Record-Setting Year for Athens International Airport with over 15 Million Arrivals
Athens International Airport announced a record-setting year with passenger traffic climbing to over 15 million for 2014, demonstrating the ongoing growth rate of Greek tourism.
Total passenger traffic in 2014 jumped by 21.2 percent, with 15.2 million passengers compared to 2013 and 12,536 million passengers.
Domestic and international arrivals rose by 22.5 percent and 20.5 percent respectively at 5.26 million and 9.9 million passengers.
A more stable economy and the promotion of Athens as a prime tourist destination were among the factors contributing to the boost in 2014 figures.
Indicatively, the number of international visitors with Athens as their final destination increased by 36 percent.
Domestic tourism also showed signs of recovery with a 45 percent increase in Greeks choosing local destinations.
