Greek Art Galleries Tour to Kick Off in Thessaloniki and Athens
A total of 38 galleries will open their doors to the works of some 300 artists on 13-14 December for this year’s “Gallery Weekend” to take place in Athens and Thessaloniki.
Organized by the Hellenic Art Galleries Association in collaboration with Art-Athina, “Gallery Weekend” aims to bring visitors to the two cities as well as residents closer to contemporary Greek art and to establish Greece’s position on the international artistic scene.
Following the example of art tours in Paris, New York, London and Berlin, Greece aims to make “Gallery Weekend” an annual event. This year, the organizers have published a map of the two cities’ galleries with brief presentations of the works and artists on show. Maps are available at the galleries.
Art-Athina, launched in 1993 by the Hellenic Art Galleries Association, is the country’s largest annual visual arts event and one of the oldest art fairs in Europe.
Opening hours: 13 December, 11am-6pm, 14 December 11am-3pm.
