2014 Arrivals Forecast For Greece Revised once Again

The Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE) has revised once again its 2014 arrivals forecast for Greece.

SETE came to this conclusion after processing the latest international arrival figures which include August. According to the data, international arrivals at Greece’s major airports last month were up 13.6% percent compared to last year.

For the January-August 2014 eight month period, international arrivals were up by 15.8% percent compared to the same period in 2013.

The 2014 arrival forecast for Greece is now set at 19.5 million tourists (21.5 million including cruise passengers).

Travel receipts this year are likely to reach 13.5 billion euros (up from the previous, also revised, forecast for 13 billion euros).

SETE has a strategic plan that sees the number of foreign tourists visiting Greece reaching 24 million arrivals in 2021. The figure of 19.5 million arrivals is originally a target for 2018. If the figure is achieved this year then SETE will be two to three years ahead of its plan.

According to the Association, goals will be achieved despite the loss of tourism revenue (approx. 300 million) caused by the crisis affecting Russia and the Ukraine.
