Aegean Airlines and Olympic Air flew more than one million passengers in June, breaking the company’s own record for the number of passengers carried in one month.

The airline flew 1.085 million passengers on both domestic and international routes last month, recording a 21 percent increase compared to the same month last year. Aegean operates 205 international and 51 domestic routes from all eight of its bases in Greece.

The traffic increase in June also boosted the number of passengers carried during the first six months of the year. During the January-June 2014 period, Aegean/Olympic Air carried 4.3 million passengers, 600,000 more than last year (16 percent increase).

According to the airline, domestic traffic recorded a 19 percent increase in both the first six months of the year and in June alone. International passenger numbers at all Greek bases were up by 23 percent in June.

International traffic to Athens was up 22 percent compared to the same month last year. According to the airline, the traffic increase is mainly the result of increasing routes to traditional destinations and adding new destinations to the company’s network. The new destinations include Zurich, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Birmingham, Hamburg, Marseille, Nantes, Catania, Abu Dhabi, Beirut, Amman and Izmir.

In June, Aegean’s bases in Heraklion, Thessaloniki and Rhodes saw international passenger numbers increase by 47 percent, 11 percent and 39 percent respectively.

Continuing the momentum recorded in the first half of 2014, Aegean this year will offer a total of 13 million seats to 87 international destinations in 32 countries and 33 domestic destinations from its eight Greek bases.
