Civil Aviation Workers Call Off Planned Strike In Greece

Airplane LandingThe Federation οf Associations οf Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (OSYPA) on 28 June called off a 48-hour strike in Greek airports scheduled for Monday 30 June and Tuesday 1 July.

According to Greek Kathimerini newspaper, the civil aviation workers called off the strike after an appeal by tourism professionals to Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras to avert any action that may hurt arrivals.

The strike was not expected to lead to any flight cancellations as it did not include air traffic controllers but it was still expected to cause delays and general upheaval, Kathimerini noted.

“It is not our objective to create problems for local communities nor for passengers, the national economy and the image of the country,” OSYPA said in an announcement.

It expressed, however, its frustration at the “indifference” of authorities over its demand for more funding to maintain the country’s airports.
