Greece’s “Navarino Challenge” Marathon To Kick Off September 2014
Greek American Supreme Marathon runner, Dean Karnazes, will once again participate in the “Navarino Challenge” marathon race that will take place in Messinia and Arcadia, two Greek regions in the Peloponnese, this year on 19-21 September. This is the first marathon race that aims to raise awareness regarding childhood obesity and the benefits of the Mediterranean diet.
According to an announcement, the second Navarino Challenge promises even more exciting routes this year.
On Saturday, 20 September, Navarino Challenge will include a “surprise route” and on Sunday, 21 September, the event program will include races for children and adults. Starting point will be the Navarino Dunes in Costa Navarino.
The renewed program of this year’s Navarino Challenge includes a workshop on childhood obesity and taekwondo lessons for children and adults, given by medalist Alexandros Nikolaidis. The workshop and lessons are available for those who stay at The Westin Resort Costa Navarino.
Furthermore, before each race, pilates trainer Mandy Persakis will give warm-up lessons. The Greek gymnast and master of pilates, will also give pilates lessons throughout the three-day event.
Also, for the first time, traditional Greek dances will be demonstrated.
The three-day program will wrap up with a festive meal that will include Greek traditional products.
The “Navarino Challenge” marathon was honored with the Gold Award in the Tourism Awards 2014 as a major initiative for sports tourism.
