SkyGreece, a new Greek airline that will launch flights from Athens to New York City, recently made its first test flight of the Boeing 767-300 ER.

The test flight was conducted on Friday 21 March and carried the airline’s president, Father Nicholas Alexandris, company executives and officials of the Civil Aviation Authority.

The flight passed over the island of Lesvos and more specifically over the Monastery of Taxiarchis, Mantamados, since the aircraft bears the name of “Taxiarchis,” the patron saint of aviators.

SkyGreece is expected to begin direct flights from Athens to New York City in June 2014.

It is reminded that the ailrine will directly connect Athens to New York throughout the course of the year: five flights a week in the summer and two flights a week in the winter. Moreover, three flights a week will be scheduled from Athens to Montreal and Toronto while future plans include the launch of flights to Chicago and South Africa.

According to reports, SkyGreece has obtained its license in Greece and soon expects to receive permits from the United States and Canada to begin scheduled flights from Athens to New York and Toronto. Until then, the airline will conduct charter flights.
