Halkidiki, Greece, Welcomes Comeback Of Dutch Tourists
The Dutch are making a comeback to Halkidiki in Northern Greece after many years of absence, according to the several hundreds of bookings made to the destination during the Vakantiebeurs Tourism and Leisure Fair that took place recently in Utrecht, The Netherlands, the Halkidiki Tourism Organization has informed.
The announcement of the launch of a direct flight from Amsterdam to Thessaloniki by low cost carrier Transavia Airlines seems to have put Halkidiki back on the map as a popular destination for Dutch tour operators. The flight will launch this April.
In regards to agreements made at the fair, Dutch tour operator Sundio Group – that holds 45 percent of the Greek market in The Netherlands – is in the lead as it already signed contracts with 12 hotels in Halkidiki for 2014, followed by Greek tour operators operating in the country.
The organization participated in the Vakantiebeurs fair as a co-exhibitor in the stand of the Greek National Tourism Organization. Many hotel representatives and incoming tour operators from Halkidiki participated in the fair.
In addition, Halkidiki’s presence in the Dutch media is expected to grow in 2014 as the organization will hold a press trip for journalists and bloggers from The Netherlands in May to introduce the Greek destination.
