Kefalogianni Briefed On Hotel Federation’s New Holiday Proposal For Greek Schools
The president of the Hellenic Federation of Hoteliers, Yiannis Retsos, presented the federation’s full proposal for a new annual vacation period for Greek schools, in a meeting on 14 January with Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni and Education Minister Konstantinos Arvanitopoulos.
The establishment of an annual “Ski Week” four-day vacation period for schools in Greece is expected to significantly boost winter tourism resorts that are popular to Greeks.
According to the federation, the hotelier’s proposal aims to offer favorable conditions and incentives for family visits to Greece’s countryside and also strengthen the local economies of destinations that have been hurt by the crisis and that depend on the domestic tourism market.
On her part, Mrs. Kefalogianni ensured that the tourism and education ministries were examining the federation’s proposal very seriously.
“We are examining it within a broader government policy that has a social and developmental nature,” the tourism minister said in an announcement.
The tourism and education ministries are expected to make specific announcements very soon.
If established, the “Ski Week” school vacation period for Greek schools would take place this year during 4-7 March 2014.
