Greece’s foreign press correspondents were informed on the alternative tourism potential of the Greek island Milos, at a recent event in Athens held by the Milos Mining Museum on the occasion of Miloterranean’s first birthday.

The Miloterranean Geo Experience initiative, sponsored by S&B, was launched last year by the Milos Mining Museum in an effort to enrich the island’s tourism product by utilizing the unique volcanic origin of its landscape and the island’s rare geology.

More specifically, seven maps with detailed routes complemented by concise text, guide the visitor’s discovery of the island’s unique geology, wealth of mining history and present, and its beautiful natural environment revealing a so-far “secret” Milos.

At the event, journalists had a lively discussion with the Mayor of Milos Gerasimos Damoulakis, S&B’s Group Sustainable Development Manager Thomas Androulakis, and S&B’s Milos Operations Manager Spyros Tzintzos.

The journalists had the opportunity to get to know Milos’s uniqueness (volcanic origin = unique landscapes + unique minerals) as an alternative tourism destination, “packaged” within the Miloterranean brand, and to comprehend the co-existence of tourism and mining, which offers the visitor a unique experience.
