Greece Moving Full Speed On Medical Tourism Development
Α Joint Ministerial Decision that outlines the conditions for the practice of medical tourism in Greece was signed on 25 November at the Greek Tourism Ministry by Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni and Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis.
According to the decision, public and private medical tourism providers will be listed in a special register for medical tourism that will be supervised by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO).
All registered medical tourism providers will bear a special GNTO seal.
Also, legal medical providers must be certified by an international body that specializes in the certification of medical tourism services. Moreover, doctors and health care units should have insurance coverage for liability issues. It is noted that this will not apply to public medical providers.
The tourism ministry, in collaboration with the GNTO, is currently conducting market research abroad to assist stakeholders in their efforts to attract international medical tourism visitors.
The ultimate aim is to turn Greece into a destination that combines medical services with leisure travel. For this reason, actions are currently under preparation to provide information to all stakeholders for the creation of synergies.
