Thessaloniki: Russian Visitors Lead In Tourism Growth

Thessaloniki’s hotel industry during the first eight months of 2013 hosted 567,548 guests for a growth of 5.49 percent.
Russian visitors were the city’s top market as their overnight stays increased by 68.72 percent to 56,295 nights in the months January through August.
Below is the top 10 of nationalities that visited Thessaloniki during January-August 2013 as announced recently by the Thessaloniki Hotels Association.
- Russians – 56,295 overnights (68.72 percent increase from 2012)
- Cypriots – 48,331 overnights (3.18 percent increase)
- Turks – 42,598 overnights (59.23 percent increase)
- Israelis – 38,820 overnights (31,22 percent increase)
- Italians – 32,936 overnights (1.82 percent increase)
- Romanians – 30,207 overnights (52.99 percent increase)
- Serbs – 27,531 overnights (39.24 percent increase)
- Germans – 26,532 overnights (13.76 percent increase)
- Bulgarians – 24,937 overnights (17.95 percent increase)
- Americans – 21,041 overnights (-2,18 percent decrease from 2012)
