Bank of Greece Governor On Greek Tourism
“Greek tourism must become more competitive,” Bank of Greece Governor Yiorgos Provopoulos said Tuesday, 9 July, while speaking at a tourism conference in Athens.
During his speech, the governor referred to the need to extend Greece’s seasonality and he added that the country has the potential to operate as a regional tourism training center for businesses.
Moreover, he expressed his belief that the tourism industry can contribute to the recovery of the Greek economy and its growth.
This season
According to recent data, international arrivals to Greece increased by 9.5 percent in the first half of 2013 compared with the same period last year. More specifically, 4.35 million tourists from abroad arrived at Greek airports during the January-June period, compared with 3.97 million international arrivals in the same period last year.
Greek tourism professionals have told the press that numbers may possibly surpass the initial forecast of 17 million foreign tourists in Greece this year.
