Mount Athos Gastronomic Festival Launched
Local tradition will be united with gourmet creations for one month at the “Mount Athos Area Gourmet 2013” gastronomic festival taking place in the Athos region.
The festival launched on Wednesday, 15 May, in the Greek capital at the LE MONDE Institute of Hotel & Tourism Studies and gave Athenians the chance to sample authentic Greek dishes made with organic products from the Aristotelian Mountain and Mount Athos.
During the launch, guests sampled the region’s organic products that included Greek feta cheese, honey, homemade jams and spoon sweets, omelets with fresh eggs and mushrooms, vegetable pies, yoghurt, oil pies and olive breads, pies with yellow and white cheeses from Olympiada and teas from organic herbs from Mount Athos.
The festival now continues on the third peninsula of Halkidiki – the peninsula of Athos – where the organic products and inspiration of the participating chefs will be reflected on the menu, dishes and flavors.
The menu includes the gourmet creations of 14 chefs – based on organic products from 10 local producers of the Athos region – that highlight both the local primary sector and its products along with culinary trends and influences in the area.
Guests attending the festival this week will have the chance to experience the ancient Greek cuisine and Aristotelian influences/tastes and also come closer to nature through walks on Stratonikos Mount and Mount Athos, which are considered unique tourism experiences.
The “Mount Athos Area Gourmet 2013” festival will run until 15 June.
The “Mount Athos Area Gourmet 2013” is organized by the Mount Athos Area Organization and chef Dina Nikolaou and held under the auspices of the Ministry of Macedonia-Thrace and the Greek National Tourism Organization.
