Rhodes To Welcome HELMEPA Environmental Campaign
The Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association (HELMEPA) is transferring its Marine Environment and Sciences Awareness Campaign from the border city of Alexandroupolis to the island of Rhodes in the Dodecanese.
The Campaign is being implemented across 12 Greek cities with the support of independent charity Lloyd’s Register Foundation (LRF).
All activities on the island will take place 20 May-5 June under the auspices of the Municipality of Rhodes.
The campaign will launch on Monday 20 May in the evening with the Workshop titled “Marine Litter: a problem that concerns us all” at the Modern Greek art Museum “Nestorideion Melathron.”
Following, the Mayor of Rhodes will inaugurate the exhibition titled “Marine Environment, Shipping and Sciences,” which will be hosted at the Museum for three weeks.
In cooperation with the Directorate of Primary Education for Southern Aegean, the exhibition is expected to be visited by 1,500 schoolchildren from the town of Rhodes and the wider area. Transportation costs will be covered by the campaign’s budget.
The exhibition will remain open for the public daily from 12:00 to 14:00 and on Saturday from 09:00 to 14:00.
Within the framework of the campaign, other awareness raising activities are to be scheduled in cooperation with the Office for Volunteerism and Life Long Learning of the Municipality of Rhodes that aim to promote the spirit of volunteerism and environmental protection.
