Thessaloniki Gets Ready For 8th “Alexander The Great” Marathon
The countdown for the 8th International “Alexander the Great” Marathon has begun!
The second largest sport event in Greece, after Athens Classic Marathon, and the top event in northern Greece, will be held Sunday 21 April 2013, two weeks before Easter.
Through its 42km route, the History of Macedonia can be viewed. The start of the race is given from Pella, birthplace of Alexander the Great and the capital of ancient Macedonia and specifically from the statue of Alexander the Great. The finish is at the White Tower in Thessaloniki seafront.
The event also has a cultural, social, environmental, historical and touristic character as the racing program (42 km Pella–Thessaloniki marathon, 5km, 10km and 1000m road races) will be surrounded by various parallel events.
This year, entries in all races are expected to exceed 8,000.
On the sidelines of the marathon, the International Trade Show “Alexander the Great” Marathon Expo will take place. According to the organizer New Genesis, this is not a typical exhibition but a vivid, interactive,commercial trade show. New products will be showcased to a targeted audience. Entrance is free of charge.
The organization of the International “Alexander the Great” Marathon is part of the official calendar of the IAAF, AIMS and SEGAS. The marathon was rated with the bronze label (2010 – 2011), from World Athletics Federation (IAAF) and is member of the Association of International Marathons (AIMS).
