SETE Calls For Sponsors To Promote Greek Gastronomy
Since 2009, the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE) has undertaken the initiative of promoting gastronomy as a pillar of Greek Tourism. For its newest project, “Gastronomy in the marketing menu of Greek tourism,” to get off the ground in the next three years, the association needs 500,000 euros.
This project is based on a comprehensive study conducted in 2009. Its implementation is based on the first institutional coordinated effort that records and showcases the valuable Greek catering services and products, aiming to connect Gastronomy with Tourism, to develop a “Greek” gastronomy brand and showcase Greece as an attractive culinary tourism destination.
According to available data, Gastronomy, once included in the Greek tourism product, could increase GDP by 1 billion euros, attract 500,000 visitors and create 50,000 new jobs. Within three to five years, it may be one of the three key reasons for tourists choosing Greece as their holiday destination, offering a quality upgrade to the country’s tourism product and contributing substantially to the development of the Greek economy.
This -preparatory- phase is an awareness campaign to encourage sponsors and gather the initial amount of 200,000 euros. The campaign will run until spring 2013.
This initiative of collecting economic resources is implemented in a time of great economic austerity, but it has a strategic importance as it concerns a huge range of tourism businesses, small and large, and also enterprises beyond tourism. We aim to recruit all factors of Gastronomy in Greece: hotels, catering services, airlines, shipping companies, food and beverage manufacturing companies, food and beverage outlets, cooking services, recreational and cultural areas, tour operators, enterprises of household and business appliances and all those interested to associate their title with this effort, such as cars, insurance companies, etc.
Our main message to potential sponsors is to view this effort strategically by placing their own business on the map that is called Greek Gastronomy and Tourism. To invest in the future, look ahead to the Greece of tomorrow, so the country is established as a recognized attractive culinary tourism destination. Because this is what Greece deserves.
