5 Greek Museums on the Google Art Project
Five Greek museums have already joined Google Art Project as partners: the Acropolis Museum, the Museum of Cycladic Art, the Benaki Museum, the Benaki Museum of Islamic Art and the Numismatic Museum, the last two being just recently added.
The renowned sculptures of the Athenian Acropolis, over 500 artefacts from the diachronic material culture collections of the Benaki Museum, celebrated Early Cycladic artworks of the Museum of Cycladic Art and the unique in Greece collections of the Numismatic Museum, all set up house on the Google Art Project.
The Art Project is a collaboration between Google and so far 151 acclaimed museums and cultural institutions across the globe. Combining various Google technologies and the expertise provided by the museum partners, Google has created a unique online art experience. Users can explore a wide range of artworks at brushstroke level detail, take a virtual tour of a museum and even build their own collections to share. Few people will ever be lucky enough to be able to visit every museum and see every work of art they are interested in but now many more can enjoy over 30,000 works of art from sculpture to architecture and drawings and explore over 150 collections from 40 countries, all in one place.
