Minister On Future Plans For Tourism
“The Culture and Tourism Ministry is currently examining how to promote Greece as an all year round tourism destination,” Culture and Tourism Minister Pavlos Geroulanos told the Financial Times Deutschland last month.
“Obviously we want to keep our tourists that seek sun and beaches, but we are trying to develop new products,” Mr. Geroulanos said.
The ministry’s new target groups are travelers who prefer active and cultural tourism, as well as pensioners.
“In 10 years from now a large proportion of visitors will come from China, India, the US and Latin America and will not look for sun and beaches but will want to see what they read in books, like the Acropolis, which, for many, is the cradle of Western civilization,” he said.
Mr. Geroulanos said Greece seeks collaborations with other countries of the region to offer products that exceed Greek boarders. “Athens and Cairo or Athens and Istanbul-such packages are attractive for tourists from China or India,” he said.
