Hoteliers Upset With TripAdvisor Website
Occasional hotel reviews on the TripAdvisor website with unfavorable comments that do not correspond to reality have caused problems for Greek hoteliers, according to the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels.
According to press reports, TripAdvisor, a leading travel site with some 35 million reviews written by consumers, may face legal action as hundreds of hoteliers and restaurant owners in the United Kingdom have accused the site for defamation.
In regards to the accusations, TripAdvisor said it would take down reviews that were proven to be false, defamatory or malicious.
On the Greek side, the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels said that several “spiteful comments” on TripAdvisor come from professional competition and not from real consumers. The chamber has received many complaints from Greek hoteliers on the issue.
Press reports say that the need for a good rating from TripAdvisor has become increasingly important in the international travel industry.
