Greek Beaches Stripped Of Blue Flags
Nine Greek coasts, winners of the ‘Blue Flags’ international program for environmental education, information and awareness were dropped last month from the 2010 list and lost their award.
Inspections this summer revealed that coastal managers had failed to maintain the required cleanliness of the beaches and provide the necessary services to bathers.
The ‘Blue Flag’ award of the following coasts were revoked for 2010 and cannot be candidates for the award in 2011:
Digieliotika beach (Aegio, Achaia); Zaharo (Zaharo, Ilia); Porto Fino (Agios Yiorgiou, Thessaloniki); Agios Yiorgios (Korission, Kerkyra); Island Gold Coast/Gaidouronisi (Ierapetra, Lasithi); Sykia (Milies, Magnesia); Livrohio (Sithonia, Chalkidiki); Marmaras B (Sithonia, Chalkidiki); and Nikiti 2 (Sithonia, Chalkidiki).
