International Drivers License Exemption Sought
A constant problem of car rental companies is the inability to rent cars to non-European Union citizens who do not have an international drivers license, the Greek Car Rental Companies Association said recently in an announcement.
According to the association, tourists from the United States, Canada, Australia and Russia arrive in Greece without an international drivers license and therefore are unable to rent a car due to legislation.
The association stressed that revenue is lost since tourists that rent cars consume gasoline and pay tolls. “Are we indifferent to this revenue?” the association wondered.
The association called for the government to make the appropriate arrangements to allow tourists to drive a car with their domestic license while they holiday in Greece.
“This would certainly benefit our tourism and our economy,” the association concluded.
