New GNTO Board Of Directors Have First Meeting
The new Board of Directors of the Greek National Tourism Organization had its first meeting last month to examine a number of critical issues concerning the proper and transparent function of the organization.
The large amount of finances spent by the organization was the main topic of discussion.
During the meeting, GNTO President Nikolas Kanellopoulos announced his intentions to carry out financial and management control of the GNTO and determine the exact amount of the organization’s debts and the legitimacy of the financial obligations it has undertaken.
Deputy Culture and Tourism Minister Angela Gerekou underlined that the government is keeping its commitment in regards to transparency.
“We want to highlight the truth about the situation and we commit to the application of safeguard measures to prevent similar public money misspending,” Mrs. Gerekou said.
The deputy minister also mentioned the urgent need to introduce a double-entry bookkeeping system to the GNTO.
“This is the only way to ensure transparency and keep track in detail of the economic range of the organization’s financial activities,” she said.
