GNTO Doubles Inspections To Tourism Firms
Inspections to tourism enterprises throughout Greece more than doubled this year by Greek National Tourism Organization representatives the Tourism Ministry said last month.
According to data from the ministry and the GNTO, inspections increased by 107.8 percent during the 15 July-15 August period as 744 tourism businesses were checked against 358 enterprises last year.
Out of the 744 checked businesses, 422 were found to be operating well; suggestions for improvements were made to 288; and penalties were issued for 34.
The ministry said that the plan to intensify Greek tourism business inspections by the GNTO continues to be in full operation.
The purpose of the inspections is to supervise the operation of the tourism market and also to look into complaints on violations reported by citizens.
During the 15 July-15 August period a total of 280 complaints were filed of which the majority were in regards to poor and incomplete services, misbehavior (81) and violations of the law in reference to tourism accommodation bookings (39).
