Piraeus Port Records Drop in Cruise Passenger Figures
Piraeus Port saw a 24 percent decrease in passenger traffic as recent data showed that 84,274 cruise passengers boarded from Piraues Port during the first five months of 2009 against 111,559 passengers in 2008.
Meanwhile, passing cruise ships, which are not allowed to board passengers due to the cabotage law, had a total of 372,067 passengers on board during the first five months of 2009. This is a 27 percent increase against the same period of 2008 (292,563 passengers).
According to Greek press reports, the recent data suggests the abolition of the cabotage law and the full liberation of Greece’s cruise market.
