Rodopi Mountains Unexploited
Many cross-border cultural resources in the Rodopi Mountains that remain unexploited to date could lead to numerous positive results in the fields of economy and tourism, according to a recent study by the Regional Department of Thrace of the Technical Chamber of Greece.
The research topic, which was organized under the community initiative Interreg, was in regards to the recognition of the morphology, typology and technology residential sets and other structures as culture and tourism assets of the Rodopi mountain chain.
The project was completed last November and recorded was a total of 188 villages in the mountainous areas of the prefectures of Xanthi (112), Rodopi (52) and Evros (24) and dozens of engineering projects such as bridges and water mills.
The next goal of the chamber’s Thrace department is to explore the possibility to establish tourist routes that will include parts of the Bulgarian surrounding area.
