Athens Promoted at EIBTM
Athens was recently promoted as a destination for events, meetings and incentives to more than 30 countries of Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australia by the Athens Convention Bureau (ACB), which participated for the first time at the global Meetings & Incentive Exhibition EIBTM in Barcelona, Spain.
The bureau’s representatives fully informed hosted buyers, trade visitors, representatives of international associations, conference organizers and multinational companies on the city’s venues, accommodation, services and facilities that are ideal for the successful organization of a conference.
According to the ACB, a key conclusion from this year’s EIBTM was that Athens attracted an increased interest as a destination for the organization of conferences despite the recession noticed on an international level due to the financial crisis.
According to the European Meeting Industry Report 2008 the international conference market seems to face the current crisis with optimism as 25 percent responded that additional international conferences are scheduled to take place over the next few years and 35 percent indicated that they would not reduce the number of planned conferences. Sixty percent replied that they would not make budget cuts for events.
