Rodos Hoteliers Concerned for 2009 Season
The Rhodos Hotel Association recently expressed its concern for the upcoming tourism season, not only for the island of Rodos but also for Greece, as its conclusions for this year are not positive.
The hoteliers said that their main worries are the expected negative effects on tourism from the global economic crisis that may even lead to a drop in bookings, especially from Germany and the U.K., two key tourism markets for the island.
The association expressed cautious optimism for 2009 in regards to arrivals from Eastern Europe and especially Russia, which is expected to increase its arrivals, but the hoteliers believe that “these arrivals will not be able to offset the losses.”
The association did not rule out the possibility of arrivals dropping even up to 10 percent next year unless the current situation is improved by financial measures taken for the recovery of the economy.
