Hydroplanes Over the Aegean
The vision of traveling by hydroplane has again become a reality as Airsea Lines recently begun its routes to nine Cycladic islands daily from the port of Lavrio. In its first phase, the hydro-port of Lavrio services passengers to and from Kalymnos with daily flights and as peak season approaches the routes will extend to Ios, Tinos, Patmos, Amorgos, Paros, Myconos, Santorini and Andros.
With the onset of new hydroplanes being purchased by the company, Aegean Minister Aristotelis Pavlides and representatives of Airsea met to discuss the routes planned within the region.
The agreement between Lavrio Port and Airsea Lines envisages a three-year plan by which the company will aim to execute flights to every port. There is, however, some speculation as to whether the realization of nine flights from Lavrio and five from Patras will come in to effect. The company’s ambition is to extend their network in the Dodecanese so as to include a base in Rodos.
