Decreased Passenger Traffic on Greek Ferries
The general secretary of the National Statistics Service of Greece recently announced a decrease in port traffic for the third quarter of 2006 in comparison with the same period in 2005. These results refer to the movement of passengers, commerce and mobile units in Greek ports serviced by domestic and international ships during this period.
The peak months of July to September, 2006, was the period in which free pricing was in effect in Greek ports, which possibly contributed to this decrease in ferry traffic. Statistics clearly show this decrease as there were over 9 million passengers traveling in the third quarter of 2005 compared with 8.9 million passengers during the same period in 2005.
