Patras Vies for Race Track Approval
Last month, Greek President of the Republic Carlos Papoulias signed a presidential decree that stipulates the technical specifications required to create and operate a professional race track in Greece.
One of the first steps to be undertaken by the company Patras Racetrack A.E, which has been fighting for race track legislation, or any other interested party, is to apply to the Hellenic Tourism Organization. The application includes a letter explaining the “advisability and viability” of such a project, which must be approved before anything further takes place.
If all goes well, the construction of the project, budgeted at 33 million euros, is to be undertaken by Ionios A.E., according to an announcement by Patras Racetrack. Once underway, construction is expected to take 20 months to complete.
The project requires a common decision by both the ministries of economy and the ministry of tourism development.
