Tourism Olympic Games Winner
Next year’s Olympic Games are expected to not only increase Greece’s gross domestic product by as much as 1.4% but also continue to so after the Games are over. The big winner in the economy, however, is the tourism sector, according to a study released during the recent Journalists’ Convention held on Samothraki.
Arrivals to Greece, according to Athens 2004, will increase next year by as much as one-half percent. And in the years that follow, the increase will be much more substantial. It says the promotion of Greece within the organizational framework of the Games is expected to give tourism a push up until 2010 and will be responsible for an annual increase in arrivals of around 5%. By 2010, it believes the tourism arrival figures to Greece will reach 20 million annually.
According to the study, the Games will ensure a steady presence of up-market arrivals as well as the creation of new tourism units.
